Tamara Altman

Tamara Altman is the founder and principal of Altman Insights LLC. Over the course of her 30-year career, Tamara has led and supported hundreds of research, evaluation, and strategy engagements, helping organizations uncover insights, clarify challenges, and make confident, data-driven decisions. She is known for her ability to translate complex information into accessible, actionable guidance tailored to the needs of mission-aligned and impact-focused teams.

Tamara brings deep expertise in program evaluation, project management, research coordination, and stakeholder engagement. She is highly skilled in both quantitative and qualitative methods, with a strong foundation in survey design, data collection, analysis, and strategic reporting. Her career spans work with corporate, nonprofit, academic, and government clients seeking to use research to inform programs, policy, and innovation.

Tamara began her career in behavioral health and clinical research, completing her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at UCLA. Her early work included multi-year research studies on child mental health, pain management, and psychosocial interventions. These formative experiences shaped her rigorous, multidisciplinary approach to applied research and evaluation.

Prior to launching Altman Insights, Tamara held senior leadership roles in public health innovation, market research, and evaluation services. As Director of Research, Evaluation, and Training at Alere Wellbeing, she designed and implemented national evaluation plans for tobacco cessation and chronic disease programs. In this role, she consulted with the CDC on methodology and ARRA-funded evaluation projects, and developed outcomes reporting systems for public health clients across the U.S. Tamara later served as Director of Product Innovation at Alere, leading a 25-person team focused on developing new healthcare training and evaluation tools.

Earlier in her career, Tamara worked as a research analyst for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, where she supported instrument development and research implementation for the Los Angeles County Health Survey, a population-based study used to guide policy and program planning. She also served as Associate Vice President at C.A. Walker Research Solutions, where she led quantitative and qualitative projects on brand strategy, customer experience, and market segmentation for Fortune 500 companies.

Since founding Altman Insights, Tamara has led research and evaluation initiatives across a wide range of sectors and topics. She has designed and analyzed hundreds of high-impact surveys – from global compliance and IT studies to regional workforce assessments – and delivered insights to C-suites, boards, funders, and frontline teams.

Tamara has authored more than 35 peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, and frequently supports clients in translating data into decision-making tools and strategies. She holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from UCLA, where she also completed a predoctoral internship at the Neuropsychiatric Institute, and a B.A. with highest honors in Psychology from UC Berkeley.
